•Iowa reached the nation's No. 1 ranking in 1985, a season highlighted by a 12-10 home victory against No. 2-ranked Michigan.
•RB Nile Kinnick (1939) is Iowa's only Heisman Trophy winner. DL Alex Karras (1957), QB Randy Duncan (1958), QB Chuck Long (1985) and QB Brad Banks (2002) finished second.
S. CAROLINA
•South Carolina's best season was 1984 (10-2). The Gamecocks began 9-0, including a 38-26 home win against Florida State, and reached the nation's No. 2 ranking. But the following week, they lost at Navy, 38-21, and settled for the Gator Bowl (a 21-14 loss against Oklahoma State).
•The Gamecocks lost the first eight bowl games in school history before defeating West Virginia 24-21 in the 1995 Carquest Bowl to cap Brad Scott's first season.
•RB George Rogers (1980) is South Carolina's only Heisman Trophy winner.
•Rogers was the NFL draft's first pick in 1981 (Saints). The next-highest South Carolina players to be drafted: WR Sterling Sharpe (1988, Packers) and WR Troy Williamson (2005, Vikings), both selected seventh overall.
