A pedestrian killed Dec. 22 while crossing Interstate 4 has been identified as 78-year-old Hubert Pinnock of Seffner, the Florida Highway Patrol said today.
Pinnock died about 8:10 that evening while trying to walk across the westbound lanes near County Road 579, Sgt. Steve Gaskins said.
Because Pinnock was homeless, troopers had difficulty locating his family before releasing his identity to the public, Gaskins said.
A preliminary report indicates that alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
According to troopers, a 2007 Toyota in the center lane struck Pinnock first, then a 2001 Buick ran over the injured man. After each impact, each vehicle struck another nearby. None of the drivers was injured.
The crash closed the roadway for traffic for more than three hours. No one was cited at the time, but the crash is still under investigation.
