Published: January 2, 2009

TAMPA - The Hillsborough Veterans Council and Veterans of America Tampa Bay Chapter 787 will honor military personnel who have lost their lives fighting the war on terrorism with a Field of Honor Ceremony on Jan. 10.

The service will begin at 10 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, 3602 U.S. 301 N., Tampa. The names of soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines who have died during the past three months will be read aloud, and a flag for each will be placed in the field in remembrance.

The council and veterans chapter hold such ceremonies four times a year. To date, about 4,000 flags have been placed in the field representing fallen troops.

For information, call (813) 744-5502.

Progress Energy Eyes Substation

LAND O' LAKES - Progress Energy plans to build a substation along U.S. 41 north of State Road 54.

The St. Petersburg-based power company, one of three that serves Pasco County, bought 21 acres south of Morgan Road in September for more than $6 million, according to county property records.

Crews will begin studying possible routes for new transmission lines next year, company spokeswoman Suzanne Grant said.

"The plan is to use existing right of ways; however, route studies have not yet begun - nor have building permits," Grant said.

Construction would begin in 2011, she said.

The new substation is intended to increase reliability and capacity in Pasco, Grant said.

Duo To Perform At Library

PLANT CITY - The Tampa musical duo Juniper will entertain at a Jan. 15 meeting of the Friends of Bruton Memorial Library.

Juniper, with Frances Pisacane playing violin and Jasmine Hart on the guitar, blends traditional Celtic, alternative folk and Americana music. The women met at a dinner party in 1999 and formed the duo shortly thereafter, Hart said.

Their travels include an annual summer tour of the Appalachians, Hart said. Juniper was recently nominated for its third album of the year from Asheville, N.C. area radio station WNCW for the duo's "Live from the Appalachians," Hart said.

This will be the duo's first performance in Plant City.

There is no charge for the performance at the library, 302 W. McLendon St., Plant City.

For information, call the library at (813) 757-9215.
