PLANT CITY - Two new truck weigh stations that will replace ones in Plant City will open Monday.
The high-tech weigh stations will go into operation on Interstate 4 between Mango and McIntosh roads. The weigh stations at I-4 near Thonotosassa Road in the Plant City area will be demolished.
There have been weigh stations in the Plant City area since the 1960s, but they have static scales, where truckers must stop while their rigs are weighed before they merge back into traffic. The new stations can weigh trucks while they are in motion.
The state Department of Transportation spent $36 million on the project.
