NEW PORT RICHEY - COUNTRYSIDE 42, SEFFNER CHRISTIAN 35

For one half David was beating Goliath.

Class 1A Seffner Christian (7-4) led Class 6A Countryside (7-6) 12-8 after one quarter, and 24-17 at halftime of the Ashley Morrison Memorial girls basketball tournament Friday night at Ridgewood.

But the Cougars went on a 10-0 run to open the second half and took a hard-fought 42-35 win.
Countryside will meet host Ridgewood Saturday in the tourney title game, while Seffner Christian faces Naples for third place.

Countryside dominated the third period, outscoring the Crusaders 16-4. The pressing Cougar defense and rebounding made the difference. Seffner Christian had jumped to the early lead on the three-point shooting of Arielle Jadlowski and nine points by Jenny Moorer.

"We pressed in the second half and maybe should have gone to that sooner," said Countryside coach Andrew Lieb. The Countryside depth wore down the Seffner club. The Crusaders used only seven players.

The Cougars also pulled down 36 rebounds in the game. They were led in scoring by Corry Barriault with 12 points and Madison Truluck and Jasmine Walker with 10 each.
