A 31-year-old man died when his pick-up truck lost control while trying to pass other cars in Polk County east of Lakeland on Saturday evening.
The Florida Highway Patrol said Tommy Lee Culbreath of Frostproof was heading west on U.S. 92 east of Saddle Creek Road when he tried to pass other cars about 8:50 p.m.
As he approached oncoming traffic, Culbreath turned his 2002 Ford truck and the vehicle left the roadway. Culbreath tried to get back onto the road, but the truck went into a spin and left the pavement, the accident report said.
Culbreath, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from the truck when it began to flip, the FHP said.
The FHP is still investigating whether alcohol was a factor in the accident.
