WFTS anchor Walt Maciborski will leave Channel 28 on Friday, when his current contract expires.
For the past three years, he has been co-anchor of the station's "ABC Action News" team, serving as the 5 and 5:30 p.m. evening news anchor and nighttime reporter.
He says his departure comes after station management couldn't come to terms on a new contract.
"It was a combination of things, including the end of my contract and the economy being in the tank and my desire to explore some other opportunities," he says.
"I don't have anything specific lined up, but I am weighing several possibilities," he adds. "I would like to get closer to home with something in Texas or California."
"For the first time in my career, I am not locked into a contract so I can take a deep breath and take my time," he says.
Born in Canada, he grew up in California. Prior to joining "ABC Action News," Maciborski worked in Atlanta; Austin, Texas; and Medford, Ore., and was a desk assistant and part-time assistant producer at ABC News in Los Angeles, London and Washington, D.C.
"We will miss Walt very much," said Rich Pegram, station VP and general manager. "Walt is a talented journalist who is ready for bigger opportunities, and I know he will do well."
"I will miss the people that I work with at the station; it's a good team," Maciborski says.
Anchors Brendan McLaughlin, Wendy Ryan and Linda Hurtado will continue on the 5 and 5:30 newscasts at "ABC Action News."
