TALLAHASSEE - About 1.5 million Powerball tickets were sold on the first day the multistate lottery was available to players in Florida, state lottery officials said today.
The game generated $606,892 for the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund on the first day of sales.
Powerball tickets went on sale in Florida at 6 a.m. Sunday. The game features enormous jackpots that average $38 million. Drawings are held on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and the jackpot for Wednesday's drawing is $105 million.
Florida is the 30th state to offer the game and join the Multi-State Lottery Association.
In other lottery news, a Zephyrhills woman won a $1 million jackpot in the Florida Lottery's $200 Million Spectacular scratch-off game, officials say.
Jackulynn Boos, 34, chose the one-time lump sum payment of $755,074.50. She bought her at a 7-Eleven at 38544 Fifth Ave. in Zephyrhills.
The $10 scratch-off game was launched on Dec. 10 and features more than $220 million in prizes.
