Polk County deputies arrested a fifth person Saturday in a shooting that left a 12-year-old bystander wounded in the leg.

Deputies arrested James Derek Crowder, 18, at the Super Inn Motel in Winter Haven.

Crowder, of 1233 N. Lake Otis Drive in Winter Haven, was arrested on a charge of attempted murder. He is being held without bail in the Polk County Jail because of a probation violation.

Four others are already in custody for the Dec. 29 shooting on Carefree Cove Drive.

According to the sheriff's office, Caleb Brown was shot in the leg about 5 p.m. when he and a 15-year-old friend accidentally walked near two arguing groups.

The two boys approached a group of teenagers in a Jeep when several people came out of a wooded area, yelling at the people in the Jeep and telling them to leave, the sheriff's office said.

They fired several shots at the Jeep, and Brown was hit in the leg, the sheriff's office said, although he was not being shot at.

Brown was recuperating at home two days after the shooting, according to the sheriff's office.

Culbreath's 2002 Ford truck went off the road while he was trying to pass. He tried to get back on the road, but the truck went into a spin, throwing Culbreath when it began to flip. He was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the highway patrol.
