A helicopter, bloodhound and several deputies spent hours searching for a missing 8-year-old girl Monday in Sarasota.
Eventually, the girl was found. On the roof of her home.
The incident began when the girl was having an argument with her mother over cleaning her room, Manatee County deputies say. Her mother briefly searched for her, then called the Manatee County Sheriff's Office for help.
Investigators searched without luck in the yard and at the Sarasota home.
An all-out search began, lasting two hours and 20 minutes. It ended when the girl was found on the roof, deputies say. She wasn't injured.
A sheriff's office news release doesn't say how the girl got on the roof, how much the search cost or why a person in a helicopter could not immediately spot the girl. Many details aren't immediately available this morning because investigators involved in Monday's search effort work the night shift, sheriff's spokesman Dave Bristow said.
Bristow said he believes the child had been hiding on a spot of the roof where she couldn't easily be seen.
