Diocese: Temple Terrace Pastor To Address DUI Charge

TAMPA - Joseph Waters, a pastor at Corpus Christi Catholic Church of Temple Terrace, was arrested this morning on a charge of driving under the influence.

He was arrested at 2:30 a.m. at U.S. 301 South and Avelar Creek Drive, Hillsborough County deputies say.

Waters, 47, of Temple Terrace, refused to take a breath test, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Web site.

He posted $500 bail and was released today from Orient Road Jail.

Diocesan spokesman Frank Murphy said Waters has had a leadership role in the Catholic Diocese of St. Petersburg and is respected. Waters previously was director of the diocese's office of worship.

"He's obviously made a mistake, and we're going to cooperate however we can," Murphy said.

Waters will release a statement Thursday, Murphy said.
