Two Sarasota men who robbed two women and stole their cars have been arrested, the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office says.
Detectives arrested Paul N. Gadbois, 23, and Kyle R. Kennedy, 33, and charged each with kidnapping and robbery with a weapon. Kennedy also is charged with carjacking.
The men, who both live at 5415 Kensington St., Sarasota, approached a 75-year-old woman in a shopping center parking lot near Honore Avenue and Fruitville Road on Dec. 23, detectives said. The men implied they had a weapon and forced the woman to drive them to a remote location before robbing her and taking her car, deputies said.
Kennedy also carjacked an 85-year-old woman on New Year's Eve while she was putting her groceries in a car at the CVS Pharmacy at 5361 Fruitville Road, detectives said. He stole her purse, Lt. Chuck Lesaltato said
Her blue 2001 Buick Century was found about two hours later at Sarasota Christian School, 5415 Bahia Vista St.
Detectives used forensic evidence from the cars to track down the men, Lesaltato said.
Both men told deputies they were responsible for the crimes, according to the sheriff's office.
