TAMPA - Football fans from as far away as Gainesville are buying tickets for the first 3-D big-screen showing of a Bowl Championship Series game.

Assistant manager Ryan Reed says the Carmike Royal Palm 20 in Bradenton is expecting a sell-out for the screening of the University of Florida-University of Oklahoma game Thursday in Miami.

"Ticket sales have been good so far," he says. Admission is $20 per ticket, and the game will be shown live on four of the screens in the multiplex. "We will have about 1,000 seats to fill," Reed says.

The event is being catered, and food will be sold during the event. Alcoholic beverages will be allowed in two of the theaters. Fans will have to wear special 3-D glasses to get the full effect – of the game.

More than 80 movie theaters in 35 states will carry the broadcast in 3-D. Only five theaters in Florida are offering the game, according to Cinedigm Digital Cinema Corp., which is providing the service. The other Florida locations are Melbourne, Port St. Lucie, Pensacola and Fernandina Beach.

Cinedigm Digital partnered with Sony, FOX Sports and 3ality Digital to bring the major national sporting event to select digitally-enabled movie theaters across the country.

Reed says he doesn't know how many of the ticketholders will be Gator fans.

The Carmike Royal Palm 20 is at 5125 26th St. E. in Bradenton, about 40 miles from Tampa. For information, call (941) 727-7469.
