TAMPA - Gov. Charlie Crist today appointed Hillsborough County Circuit Judge Marva L. Crenshaw to the 2nd District Court of Appeal.
Crist chose Crenshaw from among six candidates presented to him by the court's judicial nominating commission.
Crenshaw, 57, has served as a circuit judge since August 2000. Before that, she had been a county judge since 1989. She was the deputy director for Bay Area Legal Services from 1978 until her appointment to the county bench.
Crenshaw has a bachelor's degree from Tuskegee Institute and graduated from the University of Florida College of Law.
"Judge Crenshaw is a distinguished jurist of high integrity," Crist said in a statement. "She has served as a role model of fairness and hard work not just in legal circles, but in the community, where she speaks to youth groups about the importance of education."
The vacancy was created when Crist appointed 2nd District Judge Charles Canady to the Florida Supreme Court.
The 2nd District, which is based in Lakeland, hears appeals from Collier, Lee, Charlotte, DeSoto, Glades, Hardee, Hendry, Highlands, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk and Sarasota counties.
