TAMPA - A little more than a week into 2009 and the Girl Scouts want you to forget your New Year's resolutions.
Friday marks the official start of Girl Scout cookie sales, which means a work colleague or young sprite wearing green soon will be enticing you with an order form pushing Thin Mints, Do-Si-Dos. Samoas, Tagalongs and other favorites.
New to the Girl Scout arsenal this year is the Dulce de Leche, touted as having "a Latin-inspired flavor with milk caramel chips in a lightly spiced cinnamon cookie." Sounds as though it will pair well with a Café Con Leche.
Cookies are $3.50 a box, and early orders will be taken through Jan. 30 by Girls Scouts of West Central Florida. Delivery should start Feb. 22.
Girl Scouts also will be at booths at area stores and businesses Feb. 27 through March 22. Go to www.gswcf.org after Feb. 23 to find the booth closest to you.
If you're determined to support the Scouts but be true to your resolutions, you might consider the Cookies From Home Program, which sends donated boxes to military troops serving in combat zones.
