TAMPA - Tampa Bay Lightning center Vinny Lecavalier has been named to his fourth NHL All-Star game, the league announced today. Lecavalier will be a reserve on the Eastern Conference team for the showcase event to be held in his native Montreal later this month.
"It's a tremendous honor, especially this year with it being in Montreal and the 100th year of one of the greatest teams in sports history," said Lecavalier, referring to the NHL's Canadiens. "And then to be there with friends and family, it's going to be special."
Last year, Lecavalier was the Eastern Conference team's captain. He also played in the 2003 and 2007 games, making this his third consecutive appearance.
Lecavalier's four appearances match Zdeno Chara and Tomas Kaberle for the most in Lightning franchise history.
Lightning wing Marty St. Louis was named to the team the past two seasons, but not this season.
"I just wish that Marty was coming, too, like we have the past two years, to be there," Lecavalier said.
Lecavalier, 28, leads the Lightning with 16 goals, five power-play goals, four game-winning goals and 144 shots.
The 57th National Hockey League All-Star Game is scheduled for 6 p.m. Jan.25 at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
