SEFFNER - Armwood High senior quarterback Mywan Jackson has verbally committed to attend the University of North Carolina.
Jackson announced his decision Thursday, choosing the Tar Heels over his other two finalists, Louisville and Michigan. Jackson received nearly 20 Division I scholarship offers.
"When I went up to North Carolina the first time, I didn't really feel like I felt after the second time," said Jackson, who made an unofficial visit to the campus in Chapel Hill, N.C., during the summer before making an official visit in September. "The second time I left North Carolina I felt like I knew that's where I wanted to be."
Jackson was a three-year starter for the Hawks, the last two at quarterback. He was a Tribune All-Hillsborough County first-team selection this season after accounting for 2,311 total yards of offense (rushing and passing) and 33 total touchdowns while leading Armwood to the Class 4A regional finals.
Jackson will join Armwood teammate Angelo Hadley at North Carolina. Hadley, the Hawks' standout defensive back, verbally pledged to the Tar Heels last month.
"We're going to have each other's back and everything," Jackson said. "If I need somebody to lean on, he's there. If he needs somebody to lean on, I'm there. It's always a good situation."
Jackson is the fifth Armwood senior football player to make a college commitment, joining Hadley, linebacker Casey Callahan (Stony Brook), offensive lineman Justin Cabbagestalk (Vanderbilt) and running back Sirchauncey Holloway (Liberty).
