TAMPA - The Hillsborough County Republican Party's executive board named Joshua Burgin its party administrator today.
Burgin is the brother of recently elected state Rep. Rachel Burgin and was an aide to former state Rep. Johnny Byrd. He ran unsuccessfully to replace his boss in 2004 when Byrd stepped down.
It was the second time the executive board chose a Burgin. Its members selected Rachel Burgin over eight more experienced applicants as the party nominee for the District 56 seat when incumbent Trey Traviesa surprisingly announced he was abandoning the post for financial and family reasons. She was elected in November.
Joshua Burgin managed three Republican campaign offices during the November elections. Deborah Cox-Roush, county party chairwoman, said he impressed volunteers, office staff and party leaders with his political know-how and use of technology. She said he's expected to expand the party's grassroots efforts.
