SAN ANTONIO - A longtime family-owned business has closed its doors.
Since the 1920s, San Antonio Building Supply has been a landmark in the community east of Interstate 75 and north of State Road 52. The business, where customers could put merchandise on an account and pay later, recently shut down.
Tom Schrader, whose great-grandfather opened the business, declined to discuss its closure Wednesday.
Schrader sold to Leeds Building Products Inc. of Georgia in 2001.
In 2000, sales were $9 million. Current figures were not available.
Its Curley Street location was selected by Schrader's great-grandfather because of its proximity to the train depot. The business was once the largest dealer in the area of feed for cattle and chickens.
