Torn Tendon Has LT Doubtful For Sunday

Published: January 8, 2009

SAN DIEGO - LaDainian Tomlinson confirmed Wednesday he has a torn tendon in his groin and listed himself as doubtful for the Chargers' playoff game at Pittsburgh on Sunday.

"It's definitely torn," Tomlinson said after sitting out Wednesday's practice. "I can't really elaborate on it because I don't want to give too much information away."

Tomlinson was hurt in a 52-21 rout against Denver in the regular-season finale Dec. 28 that clinched the AFC West title. The team has listed him as having a strained groin.

Reports surfaced prior to Saturday's wild-card win against the Colts that Tomlinson has a detached tendon that connects one of his groin muscles to his pubic bone.

BIG HEAD: Ben Roethlisberger is dealing with a swollen head, an issue that has troubled many NFL quarterbacks. Only this time, it's not the result of too many commercial endorsements, a big contract or too much fan praise.

When the Steelers quarterback resumed practicing this week, he realized his helmet didn't fit right. He sustained a concussion Dec. 28 against Cleveland, and spent last week getting over headaches associated with the hit.

"I had a little headache after putting the helmet on because it was so tight," Roethlisberger said Wednesday.

"But we'll deal with it and move on."

After receiving a concussion during the 2006 season, Roethlisberger declined to switch to a newer style of helmet designed to better protect against concussions. He apparently has not switched helmets this time, either, preferring to stay with the model he has traditionally worn.

Roethlisberger has had three concussions in three years, one in the June 2006 motorcycle accident in which he was seriously injured while not wearing a helmet. He has not been spotted riding a motorcycle in public since.

READY FOR RAVENS: Tennessee DT Albert Haynesworth and DE Kyle Vanden Bosch took part in their first full practice in weeks Wednesday, and expect to play Saturday vs. Baltimore.

"I've been in hibernation for a month," said Haynesworth, who had two photos of growling bears taped to his locker by his teammates.

"The grizzly's hungry, and he's ready to eat."
