MIAMI - The University of Miami has added South Florida and Central Florida to the schools former UM quarterback Robert Marve may transfer to, but Marve's father is still not happy the school won't allow his to consider Florida, LSU or Tennessee.
When Marve, the former Plant High star, announced he was leaving UM last month the school said it would not release him to any ACC, SEC or Florida school. Last week UM loosened the restrictions, allowing him to transfer to any SEC school other than Florida, LSU and Tennessee.
Marve and his family met with Miami officials Thursday to appeal the school's decision and Miami only lifted the restrictions to USF and UCF.
"We value and want to honor every opportunity," Eugene Marve said.
"Miami originally said we talked to [the three SEC schools], but we never talked to them. It's become a turf war between Miami and Florida, and my son is a pawn in this."
Last week, Miami issued a statement that the school had "reason to believe that the Marve family or others on behalf of the Marve family contacted those institutions [UF, LSU, Tennessee] during the 2008 season regarding Robert's potential transfer prior to him having been given his release by UM."
Eugene Marve said his son is still considering all options, including attending "a school of our choice" without receiving an athletic scholarship, which is allowable under NCAA rules. If Marve "walks on" to another program, Miami has no say in what school he can attend.
