Tampa Bay Lightning rookie Steven Stamkos has been chosen to play in the 2009 NHL YoungStars Game, the league announced today. The YoungStars game is part of NHL All-Star Game festivities this month in Montreal.
The league's No.1 overall draft pick in 2008, Stamkos has four goals and 14 points in 40 games this season. He leads all National Hockey League rookies in shots on goal with 84 and is tied for fifth in power-play points with seven.
Stamkos, 18, is one of four players drafted in 2008 to participate in the game, scheduled for Jan. 24 at the Bell Centre one day before the All-Star Game.
