With all the talk of newspapers being replaced by the Web, what am I to do?
I look forward to my daily paper along with a hot cup of coffee. I read the paper cover to cover, some articles twice. I clip and save humorous and historical features. I use what I've read as ammunition for conversations throughout the day. I try to complete both crosswords. Being a car guy, the automotive section is a must. I use the sale ads for planned major purchases, especially electronics and groceries.
Aside from this, I save newspapers for various tasks around the house, including masking painting projects and lining my small animal and bird cages. They make the best lint-free towels to wash glass. Full-page color comics have wrapped many gifts. This could go on and on.
A Web newspaper will not be the real McCoy. I think of the proud mothers and grandmothers who mark the pages of the family Bible with clippings of their children's achievements and military duties. I'll never forget, as a child, my parents' visits to my grandmother's house in rural Kentucky; the wainscot up her walls was papered with the news - considered chic today.
So, I ask: What to do? Thanks for the Tribune, a deal at twice the price.
