A sinkhole swallowed large drilling equipment at a Polk County Utilities project at the proposed Edgehill Water Production Facility, a Polk County Public Safety news release states.
The project is near Highway 27 and Cottonwood Drive.
No one was injured, and the equipment remained inside the hole late this afternoon.
"The sink hole appears to have stabilized and is contained on county property," the release states. "There is no danger to any nearby roads structures or homes, and there is no fuel spill or leak."
A fence has been placed around the edge of the hole, and signs warn people not to enter the county-owned property, according to the release. Polk County Utilities is working with several agencies, including the Department of Environmental Protection, to mitigate the incident.
