GAINESVILLE - Sha Brooks scored 31 points to lead No. 18 Florida to an 80-66 win over Mississippi State in the Southeastern Conference opener for both teams on Thursday night.
Brooks, Florida's leading scored with 13.4 points per game coming into the contest, also had six rebounds and six assists for the Gators (15-1, 1-0). Marshae Dotson added 17 points, and Sharielle Smith chipped in with 11.
Tysheka Grimes scored 19 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs (12-3, 0-1), Chanel Mokango had 17 and Armelia Lumanu added 14.

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Ciarra Bravard scored 14 points, and three other Seminoles finished with 12 as Florida State (13-4, 1-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) defeated Virginia Tech (8-6, 0-1).
Tanae Davis-Cain, Mara Freshour and Courtney Ward each scored 12 points apiece for the Noles, who remained undefeated on the road this season.

CLEMSON, S.C. - Rashanda McCants scored 17 points and No. 2 North Carolina rallied for an 83-74 victory over Clemson on Thursday night to improve to 15-0.
The Tar Heels (1-0 ACC) had played just twice in the past three weeks, and it showed as they watched Clemson (10-5, 1-1) overcome a 12-point defict and take a 65-64 lead with 5:03 to go.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Shekinna Stricklen scored 18 points, including two late free throws, as No. 7 Tennessee (12-2, 1-0 SEC) beat Kentucky (10-6, 0-1).
Glory Johnson added 14 points for Tennessee, Alicia Manning scored a career-high 13 points and Alex Fuller had 10. The victory gave Tennessee coach Pat Summitt 995 all-time wins.

ATLANTA - Mickel Picco scored on a driving layup with less than 1 second left in overtime to give Boston College (12-3, 1-0 ACC) victory over No. 22 Georgia Tech (12-3, 0-1).

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Jennifer Risper scored 17 points to lead No. 24 Vanderbilt (12-4, 1-0 SEC) to victory over Alabama (12-4, 0-1).
Xavier Men Sweep To Win
CINCINNATI - Derrick Brown didn't miss a shot while scoring 20 points, and C.J. Anderson added 13 as No. 16 Xavier rolled to a 70-44 victory over Saint Louis on Thursday night in the Atlantic 10 opener for both teams.
Brown was 6-for-6 from the field, including three 3-pointers, and made all five of his free throws.
Jason Love had 11 points for the Musketeers (12-2, 1-0), who have won three straight games after consecutive losses.
Kevin Lisch scored nine points to lead the Billikens (9-6, 0-1).
NO. 21 BUTLER 64,

INDIANAPOLIS - Matt Howard scored 14 points and Gordon Hayward had 12 points and 11 rebounds to lead No. 21 Butler to its fifth straight victory.
The Bulldogs (13-1, 4-0 Horizon League) connected on five of seven 3-point attempts in the first half, stifled Wright State's post-up offense and put the game away by going inside and drawing fouls in the second half.
Butler has won 15 in a row against conference opponents and 11 consecutive home games.
Todd Brown had 13 points for Wright State (8-8, 2-3).
NO. 22 MINNESOTA 52,

IOWA CITY, Iowa - Lawrence Westbrook and Travis Busch each scored 10 points and No. 22 Minnesota rallied from a 13-point deficit then hung on to beat host Iowa.
The Golden Gophers (14-1, 2-1 Big Ten) shot just 33.9 percent from the field and nearly let the game slip away in the closing seconds.
Minnesota led 50-44 with 24.5 seconds left. Jake Kelly of Iowa (11-5, 1-2) scored and Al Nolen of Minnesota missed two free throws. Jeff Peterson buried an open 3 with 5.3 seconds left to make it a one-point game, but Westbrook hit two free throws.
