TRINITY - Three people were killed this morning in a two-car wreck that closed down State Road 54 in Pasco County for hours, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
According to a report, a 1994 BMW convertible driven by Nicholas James Plank, 21, of Palm Harbor was westbound on S.R. 54, just east of Duck Slough, about 5 a.m. when it swerved and crossed the median into the eastbound lanes.
The BMW struck a 1998 Jeep Cherokee driven by Dorly Kelly, 36, of New Port Richey.
The head-on collision killed both drivers and Plank's passenger, Derek Marquisse Giles, 17, also of Palm Harbor.
Neither Plank nor Giles was wearing a seatbelt, the patrol said.
Kelly was wearing her seatbelt.
All lanes of S.R. 54 had reopened as of 9:40 a.m. The crash remains under investigation.
