Armwood senior defensive end Ryne Giddins verbally committed to South Florida on Saturday.
Giddins, a consensus national top 100 recruit, chose the hometown Bulls over newly crowned national champion Florida, which was his other finalist among more than 70 Division I scholarship offers.
Giddins is arguably USF's most highly decorated recruit in program history. This season he was honored as a USA Today first-team All-American, the CSTV National Defensive Player of the Year and was selected for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, though he was unable to play in the Jan. 3 game because of a foot injury.
Giddins was a Tribune All-Hillsborough County first-team selection in his junior and senior seasons. He finished his prep career as the Hawks' all-time leader in sacks, an accomplishment made possible after a junior season in which he tallied a school single-season record 21 sacks.
