WESLEY CHAPEL - Amid 2008's economic doom and gloom, this Pasco County suburb found itself listed among the year's eight most notable high-growth areas by a company that provides research for national retailers.
The Arkansas-based Gadberry Group put Wesley Chapel in the middle of its eight high-growth areas, all but one of them suburbs of major U.S. cities.
Gadberry officials gave the Wesley Chapel Chamber of Commerce a peek at the rankings this week, executive director Sherri Goldberg said, saying the community had risen from 28th place last year.
Here is the complete "Gadberry 8" and their metropolitan areas: Queen Creek, Ariz., Phoenix; Enterprise, Nev., Las Vegas; Helotes, Texas, San Antonio; Wesley Chapel, Tampa; Indian Trail, N.C., Charlotte; Castle Rock, Colo., Denver; Elk Grove, Calif., Sacramento; and New Orleans.
And here's what earned Wesley Chapel a spot on the list:
Local households: 28,576, up 152 percent from 2000
Investor-owned or seasonal homes: 1,075, up 80 percent since 2000
Household income: $102,450, up 32 percent since 2000
Average net worth: $573,038
