Pinellas Motorcyclist Killed In Collision With Car

ST. PETERSBURG - A 46-year-old motorcyclist died Friday night after a car turned into his path on 16th Street North in St. Petersburg, police said.

Richard Todd Shireman of St. Petersburg was not wearing a helmet, and his head struck the car's passenger door, police said.

Shireman was riding a 2007 Honda motorcycle northbound on 16th Street when a southbound 2001 Honda tried to turn left onto 34th Avenue North.

The car's driver, Kristen Ilse Niedung, 37, of St. Petersburg, said a vehicle was turning right onto 34th Avenue from northbound 16th Street about the same time. She said she started her turn after the other vehicle completed its turn and did not see the motorcycle, police said.

Shireman was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash about 11:30 p.m.

The investigation is continuing.
