A 31-year-old man died Sunday morning after he struck a van that pulled out in front of his motorcycle on 14th Street West and U.S. 41 in Bradenton, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Edward Watts of Bradenton was taken to Bayfront Medical Center where he later died, the highway patrol said.

This is what happened about 9:45 a.m. Sunday, according to troopers:

Watts was going south on U.S. 41 and approaching the entrance to the Bradenton Donut Shop at 4616 14th St. W.

A Chevrolet van driven by Matthew Grommes, 24, was pulling out of the business' lot and turned into the path of Watts' motorcycle.

Watts' 2001 Harley-Davidson struck the driver's side of the van and he was thrown off. The impact sent the motorcycle more than 130 feet away from the scene of the crash.

Grommes, who was given a ticket for violation of the right-of-way, was not hurt in the crash, according to a written statement from the highway patrol.

A passenger in the van, Christopher Albro, 27, was not hurt.
