PENSACOLA - King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia of Spain plan to visit Pensacola next month to help the city mark it's 450th birthday.
Spanish explorer Don Tristan de Luna founded the city in 1559, making it one of the earliest European settlements in the Americas. A hurricane destroyed the small settlement shortly after it began and the Spanish did not return for nearly century.
Pensacola plans a yearlong celebration to mark its 450th anniversary. The King and Queen of Spain are scheduled to visit the city on Feb. 18 and 19.
