TAMPA - There's a new event this year in conjunction with the winter and spring "parade" season in the Tampa Bay area: the Inter-Krewe Council's Beads and Blessing Interfaith Parade Prayer Breakfast.

Jeanne Rowe and Pam Milhan of Ye Loyal Krewe of Grace O'Malley are spearheading the event, which is expected to draw at least 150 guests. Members of the roughly 60 krewes and the public are invited.

"We just wanted to make sure people in krewes had a chance to have prayer together and to enjoy your faith and fellowship together," Rowe said. "We thought this was a neat way to kick off the parade season, which begins with Martin Luther King Day and has the Gasparilla Children's Parade then on the 24th."

The event will feature Gayle Sierens, co-anchor of News Channel 8, as the speaker. Guest clergy will be Rabbi Richard Birnholtz of Congregation Schaarai Zedek, the Rev. John DeBevoise of Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church and Monsignor Laurence Higgins of St. Lawrence Catholic Church. His Word, a contemporary band, will perform.

Rowe said. "We will be offering prayers for the parade spectators as well as the participants," Rowe said. "We also will be praying for the charities of the krewes and those of the Inter-Krewe Council."

Other krewes, including the Krewe of Venus, the Krewe of Bonney Read, the Rough Riders and Columbus Day Celebration, are assisting in the planning.

Ron Weaver, the 2008 King of Venus, said his krewe has bought two tables at the event.

"I am glad the krewes are getting together for celebrating the spiritual side, too," Weaver said.
