SEFFNER - The Armwood and Tampa Bay Tech girls basketball teams didn't need overtime to settle the score Monday night, unlike the district rivals' previous meeting when the Titans won by one point. The Hawks handled their business in regulation with a convincing 58-40 victory, setting up a district tournament showdown in a couple of weeks.

"Right now we should be the top two seeds in the district tournament," Hawks coach Billy Teeden said. "When I shook their hands, I told them, 'we'll see you again.'"

In stark contrast to the back-and-forth battle earlier in the regular season, Armwood led for most of the game, pulling away in the second quarter with a 15-4 run that gave the Hawks a 10-point lead.
Armwood took advantage of Tampa Bay Tech's many turnovers in the second half to go up by as much as 20 points. Junior forward Deandra Davis, a Tampa Bay Tech transfer, led the Hawks with 16 points and seven steals. Armwood also got double-digit points from senior guard Chante Lumpkin (12) and freshman guard Chelsea White (10). Junior center Jasmine Rodriguez led the Titans with 19 points.

"They came out and wanted it more," Tampa Bay Tech coach Heather Glezen said. "We allowed them to frazzle us and we didn't step up."

The Titans were without starting guard Leria Jenrette, who is recovering from a stabbing that took place on New Year's Eve. Jenrette watched Monday's game courtside in a wheelchair. She hopes to return in time for the district tournament.
