Two Seffner teenagers went on a crime spree with a hammer and spray paint, causing nearly $7,000 damage, Hillsborough County deputies say.
Deputies arrested 18-year-old Caitlin Lumsden and 17-year-old Kayla Grace Harrell on Tuesday. The incidents started about 1 p.m. Monday at Armwood High School. Lumsden and the girl slashed the right front tire of a 1999 Mercury, a criminal arrest affidavit states.
The car's 44-year-old female owner is not a teacher at Armwood, Hillsborough County sheriff's spokesman J.D. Callaway said.
According to the affidavit:
About 1:45 a.m. Tuesday, the two went to a home at 10930 Ross St. near Mango and cut four tires on the same victim's white 1999 Mercury. They then broke the windshield and used black spray paint on the hood.
Between 2 and 5 a.m. Tuesday, the duo went to 502 Avocado Drive in Seffner and broke windows on three vehicles, including a 2008 Pontiac, a 1997 Honda Civic and a 1988 Honda CRX.
They went to an area at Lakeview Village Drive and Vinetree Drive near Mango and used black spray paint on the development entry wall, calling a person a "nasty slut whore."
They crawled under a security gate, went to 508 Apache Lane in Seffner and "struck the front window of the residence so hard, as to throw the hammer used into the occupied residence."
They also went to 3905 Oak Hammock Drive in the Brandon area and broke three windows on a person's green Toyota and spray painted obscenities on the victim's garage door.
"Deputies identified the suspects later that morning and one of the female's parents brought both of them to a sheriff's patrol office for questioning," a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office news release states. "Suspect Caitlin Lumsden denied any involvement in the crimes and told detectives she only drove the other suspect to the scenes.
"Suspect Kayla Harrell, who initially denied involvement, later told detectives the two ate tacos then drove around the east county area and committed the criminal mischiefs on known victims' vehicles."
Investigators found a spray paint can in the woods along Canning Plant Road, east of Parsons Avenue.
The girls offered no explanation as to why they did what they did, Callaway said.
Lumsden was charged with six counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, five counts of criminal mischief and one count of throwing a deadly missile into an occupied dwelling.
She remains in Orient Road Jail today. Her bail was set at $17,500.
Harrell was charged with five counts of criminal mischief and one count of throwing a deadly missile into an occupied dwelling. She was taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center.
