Hillsborough County sheriff's detectives are conducting a death investigation after a burned body was found this afternoon in an abandoned trailer park at 11441 Jefferson Road.
The body is so badly burned that detectives "don't know if it's male or female," Hillsborough County sheriff's spokesman J.D. Callaway said. The body remains unidentified.
A person passing through the area near Fowler Avenue, east of Interstate 75, noticed something unusual and called authorities about 3:30 p.m., Callaway said.
Detectives will have to wait for results of an autopsy to determine cause of death, deputies say. They are treating it as a homicide.
