TAMPA - The trial of a Tampa lawyer accused of hitting and shoving a News Channel 8 videographer was delayed today until March.
Hillsborough County Judge James V. Dominguez continued the misdemeanor battery trial of Daryl Stringer to March 9 after being told by prosecutors and defense attorneys that there were problems in exchanging pretrial information.
The trial had been scheduled for Jan. 26.
Stringer faces misdemeanor charges after being accused of accosting Gordon Dempsey at the Gold Ring sandwich shop in April while Dempsey and News Channel 8 reporter Steve Andrews were picking up lunch.
Dempsey said Stringer started arguing with the pair about their coverage of his father, Judge Thomas E. Stringer Sr. who has been accused of helping a stripper hide assets from creditors and failing to report gifts she gave him.
The hearing before Dominguez came the day after the Florida Judicial Qualifications Commission filed formal charges against the elder stringer. Thomas Stringer was the first black circuit judge in Hillsborough County and now sits on the 2nd District Court of Appeal.
