HUDSON - A domestic disturbance turned bloody Tuesday morning when a man shot his ex-girlfriend's new husband, then turned the gun on himself.
Britt Morford, 58, remained in a hospital, as did the shooter. Investigators had not released the suspect's name as of Tuesday evening, nor had they given specifics about his or Morford's injuries.
He and his wife, Jaclyn, were in their mobile home at the Barrington Hills RV Resort on Tuesday morning when Jaclyn's ex-boyfriend began yelling for them to come outside. Britt Morford told his wife to lock the doors and went outside to tell the man to go away.
The man shot Morford and went inside the home to look for Jaclyn Morford, 53, who had fled to a neighbor's home. The man, who is in his 40s, then shot himself inside the home, investigators said.
Jaclyn Morford declined to comment Tuesday afternoon. Residents said Britt Morford works as a handyman at the park.
Sheriff's spokesman Kevin Doll said deputies have responded to the mobile home in the past month for concerns about the ex-boyfriend, but he wouldn't be more specific.
The 26-acre park at the southwest corner of Little Road and New York Avenue is home mostly to senior citizens who live in Florida during the winter months. Susie Snow, of Texas, has been spending winters at Barrington Hills for the past three years.
"It's an extremely nice place," she said. "Everybody looks out for everybody."
Tuesday morning, the road leading into the park became a haven for curious onlookers. The mobile home where the shooting happened, lot 116, was surrounded by crime scene tape. A shoe and what appeared to be blood-stained cloth could be seen on the ground outside the home.
