Monroe Middle School students and faculty were evacuated this morning after a fire caused $15,000 in damage to a boys' restroom, according to Tampa Fire Rescue officials.
Investigators are categorizing the small fire as arson. Investigators are working with the school's resource officer to determine who started the fire, Tampa Fire Rescue Capt. Bill Wade said in a written statement.
No injuries were reported. The fire started about 10 a.m. at the school at 4716 Montgomery Ave. in South Tampa.
The fire was easily extinguished and crews used fans to clear smoke from one wing of the school, Wade said.
