ORLANDO - The Orange County Sheriff's Office has reassigned the deputy who responded to an Orlando meter reader's repeated phone calls to check out woods where a missing Florida toddler's body eventually was found.

Deputy Richard Cain was removed Thursday from his uniform patrol duties and reassigned to another job until an investigation is completed into how he responded to meter reader Roy Kronk's phone calls in August.

Kronk said this week that the deputy gave short shrift into checking out the woods near the home where toddler Caylee Anthony lived. The toddler's mother, Casey Anthony, has been charged with murdering her daughter.

Caylee's remains weren't discovered until December when Kronk returned to the woods to relieve himself and found a bag with a skull.
