ZEPHYRHILLS - Fire Station One on Dairy Road will now comply with the city's sprinkler ordinance, thanks to a federal grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Zephyrhills Fire Rescue won a $127,000 grant to pay for the station upgrade and for additional equipment.
Fire Chief Keith Williams said the department plans to buy devices that can detect radiation and poisonous gases. It also will install filters to reduce carcinogens in the diesel engines of the fire trucks.
U.S. Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite, R-Dade City, shared the news Wednesday: "These federal funds will help ensure that our firefighters are equipped with the latest equipment and the finest training, and help Zephyrhills weather these tough economic times."
