Aldi, the discount grocery store, will open a store in Plant City on Saturday.
The company will open its ninth Tampa Bay area store at 3021 James L. Redman Parkway. Operating hours are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
Aldi is a German-based retailer that entered the Tampa Bay area in September. Its stores carry 1,400 of the most commonly purchased items, almost all of which are store-brand. The company tries to hold down prices by cutting back on frills, so shoppers will notice some unusual quirks.
Among them, customers bag their own groceries and they must deposit a quarter into a cart corral to use a shopping cart. They get their quarter back when they return the cart.
