BRANDON - A 21-year-old waitress was arrested this morning, charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving serious bodily injury and failing to render aid.

Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies arrested Candice Elaine Oliver, 2219 Krista Lane, Brandon, shortly before 4 a.m. She was released at 9:30 a.m. after posting $2,250 bail, records show.

According to an arrest affidavit, Oliver was driving a 2001 Volkswagen south on Kings Avenue about 1:47 a.m. when the car struck a 61-year-old pedestrian near Louise Street.

Oliver initially stopped, but then left without helping the victim, identified as James Lewis, who was lying injured on the side of the road, the affidavit states.

Lewis, who is homeless, was taken to hospital but information about his condition wasn't available Friday, deputies said.
