CLEARWATER - A 76-year-old bicyclist who was struck by a pickup truck Tuesday has died, authorities said.
Walter Castore, of 2781 Enterprise Road, died Thursday evening, said Elizabeth Watts, Clearwater's public safety spokeswoman.
The pickup's driver, Esteban Gonzalez II, 27, turned left onto Countryside Boulevard where only a right turn is allowed before striking Castore, Watts said. Gonzalez, of 2529 Blackwood Circle West, was cited for violating a traffic control device.
The collision occurred at 12:48 p.m. about 300 feet east of U.S. 19 N., Watts said. Gonzalez had left a parking lot before making the illegal left turn. Castore was trying to cross Countryside in the middle of moving traffic; he was not in a crosswalk.
It had just started raining, which may have affected visibility.
Castore was transported to St Joseph's Hospital in Tampa with a serious head injury.
The collision remains under investigation.
