Cyclist Killed In U.S. 41 Crash

LAND O' LAKES - A 44-year-old man was killed while riding his bicycle across U.S. 41 on Thursday afternoon, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Michael D. Tuten tried to cross the highway from Lake Patience Road, records said.

However, he steered into the path of a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Derek R. Fernandez, 23, of Land O' Lakes, the patrol said. Tuten died at the scene, the highway patrol said.

The crash, which happened at 1:38 p.m., obstructed traffic for a couple of hours. The highway patrol was investigating Thursday.
