LAND O' LAKES - The state's economic development agency has approved a $3 million grant to help bring T. Rowe Price Investment Services to Pasco County.
The money would go toward building an access road for a site off State Road 54 that might become the new home of the company's Tampa division.
The grant from the state Office of Tourism, Trade and Economic Development will offset about half the cost of building part of Sunlake Boulevard and the entrance road to the T. Rowe Price campus, between U.S. 41 and the Suncoast Parkway. The county has pledged $1.5 million for the construction tab.
Pasco is one of five locations nationally T. Rowe Price is considering for an expanded location with 1,200 workers.
The company rents office space in the West Shore area of Tampa. The 435 employees there could come to Pasco if the company chooses to put its new 150,000-square-foot campus here.
County officials have offered the Maryland-based firm a combined $13 million in county and state incentives. The road grant is the part of the state incentives to win approval. The others remain under review, said Mary Jane Stanley, president of the Pasco Economic Development Council.
The county learned about the state's decision Wednesday.
"That's a huge step in the right direction," said Pasco County Commissioner Michael Cox. "The project is moving forward."
