A Holiday woman faces felony charges after she used her mother's identification to open a credit card account and run up nearly $50,000 in debt, the Pasco County Sheriff's Office said today.
Janice Marie Brooks, 51, of 2350 Chancery Drive, was arrested Friday morning in New Port Richey. She faces one count of criminal use of personal identification information. She remains at the Land O' Lakes Jail on $10,000 bond.
Deputies said that a few days before Christmas 2006 Brooks used her mother's name, birth date and Social Security number to get a credit card from Bank of America. Brooks used the card to charge $49,591 in debts and balance transfers from two other fraudulent cards, deputies said.
Last February, Brooks' mother told deputies she began getting calls from bill collectors for an account she was unaware of. Brooks was arrested after an investigation by the Sheriff's Office.
