WHAT TO DO THIS WEEK

If you need to prune deciduous trees and shrubs, watch for new growth to appear, then prune.

Prune holiday poinsettias and mums and plant them in the landscape.

Taste citrus to see if it's ripe. Varieties for January harvest are Navel, Parson Brown and Pineapple oranges; Temple and Dancy tangerine, tangelo and grapefruit.

WHAT TO PLANT THIS MONTH

Perennials to plant now include society garlic, walking iris, voodoo lily, gladiolus, daylily and African lily.

Vegetables include parsley, potatoes, collards. Plant peppers, eggplant and watermelon, but protect from frost.
