Adams, Mills Combine to Topple Sharks, 52-41

NEW PORT RICHEY - Nicole Adams and Kianna Mills combined for 30 points in the first half and 45 points in the game as the Gulf Buccaneers coasted to an easy 52-41 win over visiting Nature Coast Technical to clinch second place in the Class 4A, District 8 Tuesday night.
The Sharks, who are now 14-6 overall and 8-4 in the district, got off to a slow start and in the end, had no answer for the play of Adams and Mills.
"We fell behind 8-0 at the start and got within three points early in the second quarter, but we had no way to stop Mills and Adams," said NCT Head Coach Travis Lamle.
NCT committed four turnovers in the opening 90 seconds of the game as Mills scored eight points in the first quarter while Adams had six as the 17-4 Bucs jumped to an early 16-11 lead after one quarter.
A basket by Shareka Maner made it 16-13 with 6:10 left in the first half, but Gulf answered with a 9-2 run to take a 10-point lead they never gave up.
Maner led the Sharks with 16 points as NCT fell to 8-4 in the district behind leader Wiregrass Ranch and second-place Gulf.
Jen Marshall added nine points for the Sharks while Alexis Helfand had eight.
Adams led the Bucs with 24 points while Mills had 21 points and eight rebounds.
"We've been working on getting the ball inside to Kianna and she played great tonight as did Nicole Adams," said Gulf Head Coach Mike Quarto.
With only one district game left in the season, NCT will finish third and according to Lamle, this game really won't matter a lot.
"Mills was a monster inside and Adams killed us at the free-throw line," remarked Lamle. "But we'll still end up third in the district and we'll have to face Gulf again in the tournament."
