TAMPA - An undisclosed number of employees were let go by the Clear Channel radio stations in Tampa Tuesday as part of a 9 percent reduction in the company's nationwide workforce.
In a statement sent to employees, Clear Channel CEO Mark Mays wrote that "approximately 1,850 positions across the corporate, outdoor and radio divisions" were eliminated.
"Today, we had the unpleasant task of bringing our Outdoor and Radio businesses' staffing in line with these challenging economic conditions," he said.
Clear Channel has 13 radio stations based in the Tampa Bay area, including Newsradio WFLA (970 AM); WFLZ-FM; WDDV-AM and WXTB-FM, known as 98 Rock.
