A team of inspectors with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums praised The Florida Aquarium during its recent five-year accreditation inspection and will vote on approving the inspection report in March.
The inspectors indicated there were no major concerns to be addressed, aquarium president and chief executive Thom Stork said in a news release. The inspection committee took note of the aquarium's conservation and research programs and said the newest exhibit, "Ocean Commotion," should serve as a model for all zoos and aquariums to emulate.
The association accreditation informs the public that a zoo or aquarium is providing animals with care that meets or exceeds the standards of the nonprofit organization, founded in 1924.
